That’s why DR offers a wide range of round core guitar and bass strings.
String making originated with round core construction, and even though it is more time consuming to make round core strings, we feel it is worth it for the full tone, rich sustain and flexibility. It also allows for more contact between the core and the wrap wire, and as Alicia Keys guitarist Hanan Rubinstein says, "you don't have to fight your strings anymore.”

Whenever you need to cut or trim a round core string, always make sure to firmly crimp the string by at least 90 degrees before you cut.
Manufacturing round core strings requires an extra step in the winding process.
There is a small section of the core wire between the nut and tuning machines of your instrument where we install a flattened area called a swedge. This acts like an anchor and allows the wrap wire to grip solidly onto the core wire.
The crimp will provide extra stability to prevent slippage of the wrap from the round core wire.
This helps ensure the integrity of the entire string.
Is there a big difference with DR round core strings? We think so! Will you like it? Only you will know. We encourage players to try something new, try something different. We also make hexagonal core strings because we know players are artists and enjoy experimenting.
