  • “PROSPERITY ASH" Ashwin Filander, also known as Prosperity Ash, was born in Bellville, Cape Town. His initial experience playing the bass guitar took place at his local church, where he joined the worship band, following in the musical footsteps of his father. The well-known Cape Town Gospel group Kunjalo, led by Bishop EA Niekerk in South Africa and administratively supported by Hezekiah Walker from the US, discovered Ashwin during an open mic event in 2011. Joining their movement, Ashwin spent the next decade becoming a seasoned live performer, recording artist, and touring with the group. This journey led him to major cities in South Africa, as well as international tours to Namibia, Botswana, and 15 US States, including New York, Detroit, and Washington DC. The group's annual conference featured Gospel luminaries such as Donnie McClurkin, Marvin Sapp, James Fortune, and Tye Tribbett, all of whom Ashwin accompanied on bass during their performances. In 2018, Ashwin relocated to Johannesburg to pursue both a mining business and advance his music career. This move brought him to the attention of Hilton Petersen, the founder of The Jesus Collective. Ashwin joined this evangelicalnmusic organization dedicated to uplifting communities through gospel music and mentoring emerging musicians from previouslyndisadvantaged areas. The organizationncollaborates with established South African artists like Ntokozo Mbambo, Nqubeko Mbatha, Khaya Mthethwa, Loyiso Bala, HLE, Ernie Smith, and more. Their debut album, released in August 2022, garnered seven Crown Gospel Music Awards. Ashwin's bass playing can be heard on albums by Ernie Smith, Robin P, Chadleigh Gower, Jonathan Rubain, Kunjalo, and The Jesus Collective. Over the past nine years, he has been endorsed by the national music retailer Marshall Music, receiving sponsorship for DR strings and Markbass Amplifiers. His current gear includes DR DDT bass strings, Markbass, Fender, Ibanez, and Helix. Ashwin is actively working on enhancing his skills as a producer and independent songwriter to further develop the Prosperity Ash brand.
