Sunbeams are a step forward for the traditional player and the advanced exponent of fretless bass player, both of whom want brightness and warmth. Sunbeams feature the easily recognizable feel and flexibility of DR round core construction, with nickel warmth, softness of feel and increased response to magnetic pickups due to the sensitive magnetic content (compared to stainless steel) of the nickel-plated wrap wire.
BIO
Carlos Chávez is a Peruvian professional bassist based in Lima, Peru, known for his work across Latin music, salsa, pop, R&B and studio recording. A winner of the 2016 Bass en Vivo – Perú competition, organized by renowned bassist and educator Oscar Stagnaro, Carlos has built a career performing and recording with some of the most recognized artists in Latin music. His credits include Grammy-winning artist and producer Tony Succar, with whom Carlos participated as a bassist in a production that won a Grammy Award, as well as Daniela Darcourt, whose album Catarsis, featuring Carlos’s playing, received a Latin Grammy nomination. His other credits include Luis Enrique, Sergio George, Cabas, Tito Nieves, Jerry Rivera, La India, Myriam Hernández, Charlie Aponte, Víctor Muñoz, Adolescentes, and other prominent artists from the Latin music scene. Carlos has performed internationally, including tours and shows across Europe and Latin America, while also maintaining an active presence as a content creator and educator. His playing combines a strong foundation in Latin music with influences from R&B, pop and contemporary bass, allowing him to move comfortably between live performance, studio work and educational content. His approach to the instrument is centered around tone, groove, versatility and musicality. Carlos is proud to join the DR Strings artist family, using DR Sunbeam Nickel strings as his main choice for their balanced, warm and musical response, and DR Hi-Beam Stainless Steel strings when he needs additional brightness, attack and definition, particularly on his 6-string basses.
