Born in Cuba into a musical family and based in Mexico since the 1990s, Maks Mendez is a guitarist, educator, and musical director with over 20 years of teaching and playing experience in classical, blues, pop, rock, metal, funk and crossover genres. He has performed with various orchestras and rock ensembles, including being the guitarist for the international Italian trio Il Volo in their 2026 Mexico Tour which took place in Monterrey at the Arena Monterrey venue, and has taught classical and electric guitar for more than 15 years at the Faculty of Music of UANL, as well as arts and musical courses at UDEM for 8 years. He has performed in several international music festivals like Festival Internacional de Musica Cancun and at the IGF in the UK. He holds a Master's and a PhD in Education with an emphasis on music, and he is an associated instructor on the India-based platform Let’s Learn by SWS Connects. Maks has worked with students worldwide, collaborating with hard rock and progressive metal bands such as Rizengard, and he is currently the guitarist and musical director of the Mexican hard rock band Awake, winners of Best Original Song at the Paris Film Festival 2021 and nominees for Best Hard Rock Artist at the Monster Music Awards 2026 in Mexico City. Maks is focused in helping others on this wonderful musical journey so they can achieve their musical goals and express their emotions through the guitar and working on Awake's debut album.
