Veron “Koxx” Dinnall is a Grammy-winning Jamaican reggae bassist, singer, songwriter, composer and recording artist whose career has taken him from the heart of Jamaica’s music scene to stages around the world. Over the years, KOXX has performed and recorded with some of the most respected names in reggae and Caribbean music. He tours with Alpha Blondy and The Solar System and contributed bass to Morgan Heritage’s Strictly Roots, which won the Grammy Award for Best Reggae Album in 2016. Born in Clarendon, Jamaica, KOXX grew up surrounded by music. His uncles all played guitar, and there was always singing around the house. From an early age, music became a natural part of his life. His own journey as a musician began when a high school music teacher recognized his talent and enthusiasm and gave him his first bass guitar. KOXX quickly took to the instrument, representing his school at concerts and functions and developing alongside a generation of young Jamaican musicians who would go on to make their mark on reggae music. After leaving high school, KOXX followed friends to the Edna Manley School of the Performing Arts in Kingston. There, working with acclaimed Jamaican jazz guitarist Maurice Gordon, he was introduced to new musical ideas and gained a broader understanding of harmony, composition and musicianship. The experience transformed his approach to music and helped open the door to a professional career. Before long, KOXX was performing with legendary artists including Freddie McGregor, The Mighty Diamonds, The Heptones, Winston Jarrett, The Ethiopians and Max Romeo. Touring and performing alongside these artists became what KOXX describes as his own “reggae university”—an education built on stages, in studios and on the road. From every artist and every experience, he absorbed something new, gradually shaping those influences into a sound and style of his own. Seeking fresh challenges and new creative opportunities, KOXX eventually left Jamaica and made Paris his home. The move marked another important chapter in his musical development, as he increasingly turned his attention to songwriting and composition while continuing his work as an in-demand bassist. As co-founder of My Band, KOXX has worked extensively within the French and Caribbean music scenes, collaborating with artists including Pierpoljak, Nèg’ Marrons, Princesse Erika, Tonton David, Admiral T, Yaniss Odua, NTM, Daddy Nuttea, Daddy Mory, MC Janik, Diam’s and Jacob
